The Entomology Assistant works with our Entomologist to care for and maintain arthropod collections and act as a docent in our Rosine Smith Sammons Butterfly House and Insectarium. The Entomology Assistant engages with patrons about butterflies and other insects. They assist with and/or lead our daily Toddler Talk, Butterfly Release, and Critter Encounter public programs.
Duties and Functions
Docent when visitors are inside the Butterfly House.
Maintain insect lab and care for arthropods on and off exhibit with emphasis on efficiency and care.
Keep good records of daily and long term care of living collections.
Assist Entomologist with plant maintenance and pest control as needed.
Assist with other departments as needed.
Participate in training/meetings as required.
Deliver daily Toddler Talks in the Butterfly House at 11 am.
Deliver daily Critter Encounter talks in the lobby at 2 pm.
Deliver daily Butterfly Release Talks in the Butterfly House at noon as needed.
Ensure all public programs are mission-related, inspiring guests to take action.
Consummate team player.

Advanced experience working with the public with a desire to provide cheerful customer service.
Works well with children of all ages.
Ability to complete tasks successfully with minimal supervision.

Job Type: Full-time. Sundays required.
