Is There A Future Pilot in the Family?

Enjoy the wonder of flying at these museums, where kids get to learn about different planes, space crafts, missiles, notable pilots, and more.

• The Frontiers of Flight Museum is home to so much on display, including Southwest Airlines’ planes and warbirds, missiles, space­craft, and other artifacts such as Leonardo da Vinci’s parachute model. Dallas; 214/350-3600
• The Cavanaugh Flight Museum shows the kids’ World War I and II aircraft, military trucks, and armor. Addison; 972/380-8800.
• Learn how an airline works and the history behind the airline at the American Airlines CRSmith Museum. Kids will enjoy the virtual flight simulators, stepping into a real cockpit, and playing on an evac slide. Fort Worth; 682/278-9085
• Check out the outdoor aircraft “petting zoo” at the Fort Worth Aviation Museum. Here, you’ll see all types of warbirds, from jets to helicopters. Fort Worth; 855/733-8627 21.
• Take a tour of the Vintage Flying Museum, where you can see various planes in the process of restoration. The collection includes artifacts such as weapons, uniforms, and other items from World War I, WWII, the Korean and Vietnam wars, and other conflicts. Fort Worth; 817/624-1935  

Time to Head Outside and Into Nature at Texas Discovery Gardens & Butterfly House

The Texas Discovery Gardens and Butterfly House is an organic jewel inside the Fair Park just east of downtown Dallas. The garden features both adapted plants and native plants. It is a great attraction for kids to explore nature and learn how to preserve it. The garden and butterfly park is full of natural wonder­s extending over 7.5 acres.

At the Rosine Sammons Butterfly House and In­sectarium, you’ll interact with hundreds of tropical butterfly species. The different stages of a butterfly’s life cycle will be visible throughout the year. The butterfly house is open Wednesday-Sunday, 10am-5pm.

Botany classes are available for kids interested, and learning activities include walking nature trails, organic gardening, and camps. 

Snakes of Texas is a must-visit exhibit at Texas Discovery Gardens, where you can see both venomous and non-venomous snakes that are native to the state. Here, your kids can learn about the different snake and lizard species and how gardeners can use them to keep pests away.

While at the gardens, check out the Garden Model Train; with close to 1000 feet of track, you can usually find three trains running at one time. Trains run Saturday-Sunday 10:30am-5pm. 

The Texas Discovery Gardens is conveniently open, Wednesday-Sunday, from 10 am–5 pm. 

Time for Science? Visit the Perot Museum of Nature and Science

The museum is located on 180,000 square feet of space, featuring five floors and 11 exhibits.

The interactive and engaging Perry Museum of Nature and Science is ideal for kids and a great spot for them to geek out. Since its launch, it has been a great motivation for kids who want to be robotics engineers, stars seekers, and science experts.

Unlike most museums, Perot encourages an engaging experience. Touching is an integral part of the museum’s exhibit that allows kids to play various games, experience earthquakes of different magnitude, and even perform dances at the exhibits.

The unique exhibits will provide your family with a museum experience like no others, coupled with an interactive and educational experience. The activities and exhibitions at the museum are ideal for both adults and kids. There is also a food court on site for a lunch break.
